natalie mccool - "your hero" video review

the "black sun" ep by natalie mccool is already one of my 2011 highlights. now natalie releases her new single "your hero" (the third track on "black sun") and a brilliant video for it as well.

the "your hero" video was directed and produced by leeds based filmmaker danny lacey of stada media. he was given an exclusive broadcasting camera by sony and asked to shoot a music video. danny honoured natalie by choosing her as the artist. sony will broadcast natalies video at an official film conference in amsterdam, netherlands.

the song is about this feeling you get when you´re limited in your own actions because someone else´s addiction to you spins circles around you and your entire life. it doesn´t matter if this person knows you very well or if you just met. sometimes people lose their grip on reality and start to write their own story, completely ignoring everything around them. when people get addicted to other people, you know it´ll end badly.

natalie sings about a serious topic and the video perfectly fits the mood of the song. the video tells the story from the persons point of view who is on the bad receiving end of this human "addiction". but somehow it seems that the viewer gets to see two different natalies.

there´s the one who´s singing out loud, the one who´s not ready to give up her life and just accept the role someone else wrote for her. she seems to be determined to find her way out of this hopeless hassle.

then you get to see the other natalie - the one who´s scared, trapped in her own home because someone else wants her to. she´s afraid of that certain person, closing curtains and doors in order to hide from someone else. at the same time she´s longing for the world outside, she misses this other world, touching hands through the window. but her fear keeps her locked inside.

all in all, the mostly calm atmosphere of the video goes along with natalies voice very well. strong vocals, intense lyrics and a beautiful melody make this song a pleasure to listen to and now there´s a wonderful video to enjoy along with it.
